Learn Ruby from the Basics
Ruby — a language designed around readability and programmer happiness — taught from the ground up across 68 lessons. Since Ruby runs outside the browser, each lesson checks whether what you typed matches the reference code, giving you instant feedback without ever leaving the page.
What is Ruby used for?
Ruby was created by Yukihiro Matsumoto of Japan around a design philosophy of βprogrammer happinessβ, and is known for syntax that reads almost like English. Together with the Ruby on Rails framework it is used worldwide for building web services, and it remains one of the few languages that originated in Japan and became a favourite everywhere.
Common uses & related roles:
- Web application development (Ruby on Rails)
- Startup and prototype development
- Scripting and automation tooling
- Web engineer
