Writing your own function
This lesson covers the basic form for defining a function in Scala.
A function is defined as def name(arg: Type): ReturnType = { ... }. If the body is a single line, the {} can be left out.
The sample code defines def greet(name: String): String = { ... }, which takes a name and returns a greeting built from it.
A common early stumble is forgetting the =. In Scala the body has to be joined on with an = before the {}, and leaving it out changes the meaning.
In professional work, gathering logic into a function in one place, rather than copying it around, is what makes changes and maintenance manageable.
