Your first shell script (echo)
This lesson covers the basics of printing in a shell script with echo.
echo "..." displays text on the screen. The #!/bin/bash at the top of a script file is called the shebang, and it is the special line that tells the operating system to run this file with bash.
In the sample code, the line after #!/bin/bash is a single echo "Hello, Shell Script!".
A common early stumble is forgetting to grant execute permission. To run a script you have written as ./script.sh, you first have to give it permission with chmod +x script.sh.
In professional work, shell scripts are an indispensable tool for infrastructure engineers — routine server maintenance, automating deployments, and so on.
