Lesson 32 / 59

Deleting a Stash with git stash drop

This lesson covers deleting a stash with git stash drop. It's for anyone searching "git stash drop usage."

git stash drop deletes a shelved stash (a temporarily saved set of changes). Use it to clean up stashes you no longer need.

In Try It, run git stash drop. The most recently shelved stash gets deleted and disappears from the stash list.

A common early mistake is not realizing deletion is irreversible — stash is a convenient temporary holding spot, but dropping it discards that content for good, so make sure you genuinely don't need it before running this. In real teams, this command gets used to clean up stashes that have piled up from repeated stashing, clearing out the ones that are no longer needed.
